Lisa Masouras, LCSW

Lisa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Master Forensic Social Worker, and the founder of Hanover Counseling Associates.  She earned both her Bachelor and Master degrees in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Lisa has 20 years of experience in mental health, including working with children and families in area community services boards, Courts, inpatient hospitalization programs, employee assistance, intensive in-home, and private practice.  Lisa specializes in understanding and treating trauma, addictions, severe mental illness, parenting struggles, child socio-emotional development, anger, domestic violence, divorce, relationship problems, co-dependency, anxiety, and depression. She is a faculty field instructor for the VCU School of Social Work and has proudly provided clincial supervision to her peers seeking licensure by the Virginia Board of Health Professions since 2007.  Lisa is currently working on her certifications as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) clinician.

Lisa loves working with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.  Her experience in work environments with culturally and ethnically diverse populations has contributed to her empathic understanding of individual, group, and family behavior in the environment.  As a result, she is an excellent source of community resources and a strong advocate for her clients.  Lisa focuses her interventions on empowering her clients to facilitate an improved quality of life, achieve healthier relationships, and experience inner balance and joy.

By providing a safe and nurturing environment, Lisa is able to help her client's begin to discover longstanding patterns of thinking and behavior that interfere with achieving their hopes and dreams.  Lisa utilizes CBT, play therapy, ego-psychological and object relations theories in her work.  If you're looking for extra support and guidance, she looks forward to helping you achieve your goals.

In addition to working in private practice, Lisa has presented to area professional groups and general audiences speaking on the topics of eating disorders, suicide prevention, positive thinking, domestic violence, self-care, stress management, substance abuse, parenting, child development, healthy relationships, and anger management.
When not working, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, listening to music, and laughing.

 

Amy Morris Martin, LCSW

Amy has been working in the mental health field since 2000.  She received her Bachelor degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000.  She worked as the Director of Social Work at a nursing home while she attended graduate school.  Amy earned her Master degree in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002.  She gained experience as an Intern providing counseling services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault at the YWCA as well as child assessments and therapy at Richmond Behavioral Health Authority.  She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in 2004 and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.  Amy's experience as a Clinical Social Worker at Central State Hospital, behavioral health consultant to the emergency departments at Memorial Regional Medical Center and Richmond Community Hospital, clinician with the PACT team and the crisis unit at Henrico Mental Health have provided her with the rich clinical experience needed to serve her clients best.

Amy enjoys working with children, adolescents, and adults.  She was trained in a variety of methods, but ultimately she believes in the change process and that we each have the ability to improve relationships and experience personal growth.  Amy believes it is the nonjudgmental therapeutic alliance which draws from a strengths perspective that her clients find most helpful.  She enjoys listening to the experiences of her clients while helping them change negative thought patterns, identify and apply coping strategies, motivating them through a strengths perspective, and educating them on healthy ways to take care of themselves.
Amy's specialties include: ADHD, ODD, conduct disorder, depression, anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, thought disorders, eating disorders, grief, PTSD, anger management, trauma, relationship issues, codependency, divorce, parenting strategies and LGBTQ issues.
Amy has been married for ten years.  She and her husband have two very busy daughters.  Amy enjoys spending time with her family, music, running, spending time with friends, and traveling for her daughter's sporting events.
 
Kerrie Bogaz, LCSW, PBS

Kerrie Bogaz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Positive Behavioral Support Facilitator. Kerrie obtained her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from James Madison University in 1994 and her Masters of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2001.  Kerrie has spent over 20 years serving children and families in various mental health settings including the inpatient psychiatric setting and Richmond's local community service board.  At Richmond Behavioral Health Authority, Kerrie performed as a clinician for multiple years working specifically with individuals with serious mental illness as well as chronic medical conditions including cancer, GI disorders and traumatic brain injury. In 2006, Kerrie became endorsed through the VCU Partnership for People with Disabilities as a Certified Positive Behavior Support Facilitator. As a PBS Facilitator, Kerrie utilizes the Strengths Based perspective to providing consultation and support for children and adults with disabilities and significant behavior challenges. From her PBS training, she has specialized in the development of interventions from the Person Centered Perspective, designed to enhance the individual’s overall well-being and positive interactions in their environment.  Kerrie has also worked extensively with individuals diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as with Sensory Processing Disorders.

For the past 5 years, Kerrie has operated as a Clinical Director to a mental health agency that provides a intensive in-home therapy, therapeutic day treatment and mental health support  services to ethnically and racially diverse children, adults and families experiencing a myriad of issues including trauma, intergenerational poverty, community and family violence, drug activity, discrimination, severe mental illness, and incarceration,  to name just a few.  In this setting,  she has provided ongoing counseling and has overseen all clinical components to assisting Children and at-risk youth diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and a variety of other emotional and behavioral issues.  Kerrie also provided therapeutic services to adults in these families, including those diagnosed with Mood Disorders, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and Schizophrenia. She has frequently incorporated her love for art and natural creativity into individual, family, and group therapy.

In addition, Kerrie is a teacher at heart and has proudly performed in the role as a Faculty Field Instructor for VCU’s School of Social work Program for the last 10 years. Kerrie enjoys working with children, adults and the geriatric population. She intends to expand her knowledge of trauma based therapies by obtaining a Certification to become a Registered Play Therapist.

Kerrie uses respect, honesty, compassion and humor to help individuals work through traumatic and painful experiences. She is a passionate individual, frequently willing to try new things. She hopes that with nurturing, support and empowerment, she can assist others with moving outside of their existing comfort zone and enriching their lives.

When not working, Kerrie is a mother to her two teenage sons, an avid gardener and an accomplished athlete. She enjoys power lifting and running and has completed several marathons.  Above all, Kerrie learned several years ago, during her journey in losing over 100 pounds, that lasting change occurs when integrating holistic health practices with mind, body and spiritual wellness. She hopes to one day become a Master Gardener and expand upon her love of traveling.

Gideon Javna, LCSW

Gideon Javna is a licensed clinical social worker who graduated with his Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011. Gideon has professional clinical experience that includes facilitating groups at juvenile detention centers, working with children in schools, working as an addiction counselor in the field of substance

abuse, and working with both couples and adults in an outpatient setting.

Gideon believes that his task as a therapist is to use empathy, positive regard, and analysis to remove obstacles blocking his clients’ path to success. Gideon believes in mastery, in self-actualization, and in every client’s desire to grow. Gideon works to help clients accomplish their goals.

 

Carrie Meyer, LCSW

 

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over twenty years of mental health field experience serving adults, children, couples, and families. My practice is person centered, strengths based, and focused on personal growth and working together in a supportive setting to facilitate your journey towards empowerment and living your best life. Areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, trauma, women's issues, grief and loss, relationship issues, mood disorders, and autism spectrum/developmental disorders.

 

 

 

 

Sherrie Mintz, LCSW

Sherrie is working on becoming a Certified Play Therapist and  her postmaster’s certification in Marriage and Family Therapy with a concentration in Child and Adolescents.  She is coming to the Hanover Counseling Associates in the Spring of 2018.  She has her BA in psychology from George Mason University and her Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She has a true love and passion for working with children and families.

Sherrie has over 15 years of working with children and adults with various disabilities.  He first love is working with children with have intellectual disabilities and emotional disturbances and assessing those individuals and determining what needs and resources would best fit them in community and their families.  She is able is relate to this population with her calm and adaptable nature and are able to provide several valuable resources to these families in need.

Sherrie is joining us part-time and is super excited to see clients assist clients and their families meet their needs and goals that they set for themselves.  She will see a number of individuals with a wide range of goals or problems, but Sherrie will specialize in assisting and guiding children with various disabilities and their families in the process of play therapy to assist with addressing their overwhelming issues that occur across their lives. Sherrie is working on becoming a Certified Play Therapist and  her postmaster’s certification in Marriage and Family Therapy with a concentration in Child and Adolescents.  She is coming to the Hanover Counseling Associates in the Spring of 2018.  She has her BA in psychology from George Mason University and her Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She has a true love and passion for working with children and families.

 

Stephanie McNamara, Certified Life Coach

Stephanie McNamara joined the Wellness Center at Hanover Counseling Associates as a Certified Life and Wellness Coach at the beginning of 2017. Her coaching specialties include lifestyle, wellness, professional, and changes of life circumstance (ie divorce, marriage, parenthood, home ownership to name a few).  Stephanie works as a guide toward whatever the established goal is as a result of the preliminary consultation.  Session packages are individually tailored on a case by case basis and will be priced accordingly.  Unlike counselors and therapists, life coaches do not diagnose nor do they come up with treatment plans.  Life coaches focus on the four health areas of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.  Schedule a FREE consultation with Stephanie to see if this service would be a good fit for you.

Stephanie is an author who has a children’s book in print ( Rodney Ram Teaches Teamwork , 2007), several lifestyle blogs as well as a memoir centered on marriage, divorce, and midlife dating pending publication.  She lives with her busy teenage son in Richmond and is a huge supporter of her alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where she received her BA in English – Go Rams!

Sydney has come to HCA sharing front desk responsibilities with Jason and bringing smiles to clinicians and clients every day!  She is a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and plans to pursue her goals of becoming an RN while continuing as part of our team.  Syd loves being in the country, listening to music and cuddling with her dogs and newborn son!
